This is the idea of M. Subburaman, director of Society for Community Organization and People’s Education i. e. SCOPE , who says urine collected in this manner is used I research programme to creat liquid fertilizer. Musiri now become first place in the world where people get paid for using a toilet. This plan is emerged from a pact between Tamil Nadu Agricultural University ( TNAU ) and SCOPE.
These toilets are called as Ecosan i. e. eco sanitation toilets and has longer queue of people in front of them . In this system a card is given to each user. When he / she uses toilet a tick mark is made on that date and get 10 paise for single use. The payments are made on monthly basis , which could be anywhere between Rs.30 – 40 for a family . And now knowing the health and money benefits people’s including children’s are using ecosan toilets.
As per the C. Ponniah , specialist of this field , urine contains the considerable amount of nitrogen as ammonia . So after processing it , it can be used as fertilizer for crops . And SCOPE is now getting around 250-300 l urine.
