Most of the time you have images in bmp , png .. formats and that are of large size . So you want them in JPEG format will small size. But finding a image batch convertor application is a headache .
Here I am explaining how to batch convert images photos in various formats using a free software i.e. Irfanview (download here ! It is free ! )
1. Download and install Irfanview . Run it .
2.Click on File menu and choose Batch Conversion / Rename .

3. Choose images using Look in option and click Add.
4.On the left side you will see Work as . Choose what you want Batch conversion or rename or both.
5.Below it you will see Batch conversion settings. Choose output format (JPEG). You can modify quality of image by clicking on Options Or Advanced.
6. For rename use Batch rename settings.
7.You can set output folder (where your images will be appear) by using Output directory for result files .
8.Now it is time to start the process. On the lower left corner , click on Start Batch.
9.After it completes go to the folder you choose in step 7. Converted / renamed images are there.
